Distortion by Lucky978 Distortion by Lucky978
Well as most of you know I have been doing a lot of portfolio and sketchbook work lately--mostly for the governor's honors program that I was nominated for (Thank Mrs. Jackson for the huge honor)
So here is a little something-- Maybe not portfolio worthy but I like the exercise. We were working on reflection and distortion in class with metal and glass.

This one was about a 3 hour sketch. I think it turned out pretty nice. The idea was to make a sort of boring arangement look interesting.

Anyone have ideas for portfolio pieces?

Magnificent. In all honesty, I can't tell what is being portrayed in the reflection of the goblet at all. It might just be that I'm slightly tired, that coupled with being sick doesn't help either.. >.> But back to the piece itself. The overall composition of the piece is superb. The only thing I see that seems odd is the spatula (or whatever it is :XD:), Judging by how it is positioned leaning against the goblet, I would have imagined it to be slightly closer. What I mean is that I would have though where the spatula is touching the table/desk/ect. would have been further forward, almost in line with the base of the goblet itself. A part from that the piece is done beautifully. And I didn't see the original still life layout so I could be wrong. The textures on the goblet could be slightly smoother, but for a 3 hour "sketch" they are perfectly fine. The reflections are all portrayed very well. Beautiful job! I do think you succeeded in taking a plain and boring scene, and transformed it into something vibrant, spectacular, and far from boring/dull. Excellent job.

If I may ask, what is the main theme of your portfolio? Or do you have one yet? Knowing this would greatly aid in the suggestion of ideas for you.

Oh my, even tho I'm sick as hell I must comment!
This is dam close to perfect in refection, the added touch of the reflections of people drawing on the glass adds the right touch. ;)

I have been trying to think of a good focus (although I am not working on a college one just yet)
I was thinking that it might be fun to have distortion and reflection as a theme throughout my drawings.

distortion and reflection are fun. that would be an interesting theme.

in one of my art classes we held a christmas ornament in our hand and had to draw ourselves distorted, and of course anything else we could see. that was a fun reflection and distortion!

you could draw tons of things like that.. just find household settings with reflective surfaces.

i know with my portfolio (well, both of them) i've been having a hard time deciding themes. my photography is so vast in subject matter.. and my drawings too.. the only thing easier about my drawings is they are all graphite.. so i don't have to classify by different mediums either!! :D
