I entitle this deviation "Patrick Riding Unicorn". This is one of 9 portfolio pieces I am working on this week to prepare for AP art. I wanted this drawing to express my passion for my hobby and and my excitement for fantasy related art. I also chose incorporate one of my favorite fictional childhood characters, Patrik Star, from the show "Spongebob Squarepants" on Nickelodeon.
I am very proud of the composition of this piece in particular. The way patrick is placed on the back of the Unicorn really brings out the green in his pants. I also think the color theory is rather magnificent. The green really pops due to the pinks, purples, and reds that surround it. This really put emphasis on the pants, which I think are quite well drawn and define Patrick for who he is.
As for the Unicorn, I am quite proud of the anatomy- especially in the legs. Horse anatomy is not easy, but I think I pulled it off. All of the bends and muscles really help to make this unicorn look almost realistic. To remind the viewer that this is indeed a fantasy piece, I added polka dot and heart patterns to the unicorn.
For the background I wanted to go with a simple but stylish design. I settled on purple streaks emanating from the center of the piece.
I really think all in all my art teacher and the AP staff will be pleased =]
