Steampunk Commish1 by Lucky978 Steampunk Commish1 by Lucky978
This is a $40 steampunk necklace commission that I completed for somebody offsite. They wanted a key in front of an old clock face with at least one wing.

For this one I used 14 gears, 2 wings, a clock face, a watch backing, a key, 3 rhinestones, 2 "different" watch parts, a locket, a tooth charm, and a chain.

Of course, being 16 & jobless presents a problem of no money. However, I may have 50$ lying around.

OoOooo its so pretty! i've been dabbling in the steampunk jewelry myself, some are ok, only came out really awesome, trouble being is i can hardly find any clock gears, or faces or anything that would really define a piece, would you know of a website per chance that sells the steampunk pieces? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where do you find your keys? They're so incredibly beautiful!

I've been working on some of these myself, but I find it incredibly difficult to find decent gears and sprockets. The ones I pry out of wristwatches and old, broken clocks aren't nearly as beautiful as the ones you have here.

Mind giving a rookie some tips?

It can be quite difficult to find decent gears without purchasing old vintage watches/pocketwatches. I find ebay to be the best source of these. I also occasionally find lots of JUST gears for a fairly cheap price.
Another great place to find watches/pocketwatches are in old junk stores, flea markets, and antique shops (though I find this method to be a bit more expensive).
I would stear clear of newer watches, as these tend to have plastic insides instead of metal.

I figured that out the hard way... After spending over an hour prying open a Fossil watch, I found nothing of use but the hands. No gears, no sprockets, no nothing. So I took my art teacher's old, dusty wall clock and found a whole bundle of useful pieces.

I'll keep looking around for good pieces. I think eBay would be a good idea C: Thank you.
