Hey guys! I don't usually push causes and things on people, but I thought this was important enough to share with you all, as it is something that effects the art community as a whole. The UK government recently pushed legislation through parliament that essentially legalizes art theft from the internet.
has brought this issue to my attention. Here is an excerpt from a note she wrote to me:
"I was wondering if you could help raise awareness.
The UK government has passed new legislation making it legal for images to basically be taken off the internet and be resold and reused without recognition or payment of the original artist.
There is a government e-petition against this, and I would be extremely grateful if you could raise awareness of this amongst your watchers in the UK.
The situation is explained better on the petition page.
(Link to the petition: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petit… )
As many people need to know about this as possible, and sign the petition to get this government decision overturned.
Thank you for your time,
Season (Rebecca Higgins)"
This isn't just something that effects the UK, this decision effects ALL OF US. What kind of message are we sending as artists if we sit back and let legislation like this get passed?
Anyway, I hope you will take some time to read up on this issue and perhaps sign the e-petition if you are a UK resident. Sadly only UK residents can sign the petition, but it is still a good idea to be informed about such issues.
Thank you
Lucky
